Trouble shooting

Here are some of most common questions we received to date. For more questions and answers, please refer to the Section 8. Trouble Shooting in the JB-99 User's Manual.

Q1. After JB-99 is turned on, the TV screen is not getting any video signal.

A1. Check to see if the RC cable from JB-99 is correctly plugged into the Video Out terminal of JB-99 and into Video In terminal of TV. If the connections are set correctly, but there is still no picture on the TV, check to see if you are using a RF modulator to connect the JB-99 video output to TV coaxial input. If so, you must change the RF modulator or use a TV with regular video input RC jack.

Q2. After JB-99 is turned on, the TV screen is scrolling and has no color.

A2. It may be that your unit has an incorrect video setting (PAL instead of NTSC or vice versa). Turn off the JB-99 and adjust the video mode switch in the back panel before turning back on.

If the video setting is set correctly but the TV screen continues to scroll, press the MENU button on JB-99 for the Menu screen. Go to 4. System Setup and check that 3. Video Source is set to Internal. If not, press 3 to change the video source from External to Internal. The Video Source should be set to External only when you have an external video source such as camcorder for the background picture connected and powered on.

Q3. I am looking for a CDR-drive that will convert the CD+G songs from a disc for JB-99. What CDR-drive should I use and where can I buy it ?

A3. Here is a list of CD+G compatible CDR or DVDR drives.

  • Plextor CDR 52/32/52, CDR 48/24/48
  • Plextor DVDR 508, DVDR 708
  • Most Plextor CDR and DVDR drives are CD+G compatible.

Contact CAVS Tech Support for confirmation or order an available model.

Q4. When I select more than a hundred songs and try to transfer them from my PC to JB-99 using a FX cable, I get an error message. What is going on ?

A4. Using a FX cable, you can transfer a maximum of 100 songs at any one time from PC to JB-99. So for more than a hundred songs, please divide the songs into 2 or more groups and transfer them separately.

Q5. What is the largest number I can assign to a song as the song number in JB-99 ?

A5. Using the system of Version 00.61 or above, the largest number you can assign to a song is 19,900.

Q6. Is there a faster way to transfer CD+G song files into JB-99 than by FX cable ?

A6. Yes. For those who are downloading thousands of songs into JB-99, we recommend the IDE transfer method. This is a way to transfer directly from PC hard drive to JB-99 hard drive by pulling out hard drive of JB-99 and connecting it to PC as an extra drive. For more information on this and needed programs, please go to IDE DATA Transfer.

Q7. Is there a way to transfer CD+G song files into JB-99 without using a PC ?

A7. Yes. For those without a PC, you can transfer the song files into JB-99 using a DataCD produced by CAVS or by anyone else. For instruction on how to use a DataCD and also how to make a Data CD, please go to DataCD Instruction.

Q8. I have accidentally erased or changed the files in the root directory of JB-99 hard drive, and connecting back to JB-99 machine, the system will not boot up. What can I do ?

A8. Having touched the root directory files in JB-99 hard drive, you are at a risk of losing your song data. You should take all precautions to prevent such accidents. To try to revive the JB-99 hard drive, download the System Files and copy them onto the root directory of JB-99 according to the instruction given in the readme instruction file.

Q9. For Windows NT, 2000 and XP, JBmanager program gives out an error message "3cd MFC Application has encountered a problem ..." or "CD-ROM drive not found" even though a CD-ROM drive is installed.

  • Go to "C:/Windows/System32/" directory and check for a program "wnaspi32.dll".
  • If the file "wnaspi32.dll" exists, then go to "C:/Program Files/Cavs/JBManager/" directory and delete the file with the same name "wnaspi32.dll".
  • If the file "wnaspi32.dll" does not exist in "C:/Windows/System32/", then download "COMPELASPI.EXE" into your PC and double click on it to install. After the installation is complete, go to "C:/Program Files/Cavs/JBManager/" directory and delete the file "wnaspi32.dll".
  • Restart the program JBManager.
  • Having installed "COMPELASPI.EXE", you must also delete the file "wnaspi32.dll" from each of the PlayCDG, PlayCDG Pro, PlayCDG PE, and Encoder MCG program directories to run the respective programs properly.
  • Having installed "COMPELASPI.EXE", if the program JBManager still gives out the error message "CD-ROM drive not found", then go www.goldenhawk.com/download_body.htm or www.adaptec.com for the latest WINASPI driver.

Q10. For Windows NT, 2000 and XP, JBmanager program gives out an error message "Cannot find driver. Looking for system aspi" and will not transfer files from PC to JB-99.

  • Download "COMPELASPI.EXE" into your PC and double click on it to install. After the installation is complete, go to "C:/Program Files/Cavs/JBManager/" directory and delete the file "wnaspi32.dll".
  • Restart your PC and run the program JBManager.

DataCD Instruction

An alternate method of loading CD or CD+G songs into JB-99 is by DataCD. This method is particularly useful when JB-99 is located in a remote area where connecting with a PC is not possible.
